Collages by Javier Piñon

Collages are usually not the thing to wet my noodle. I typically find them messy due to poor placement, proportions and colour schemes. In this case however, not only does Javier dish up some gorgeous works, but you just can’t help enjoy the fact that the majority of his work is all cowboy & furniture [...]

Jay Crocker – The Delicious

Jay Crocker – The Delicious
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
As I’ve recently been experimenting with drum kits, I’ve realized how much of a soft spot I have for snare driven rhythms with the kick taking the backbeat. This tunes ramps up into just that (around 1:10m). Jay’s recorded (and sometimes live) stuff also comes [...]

Albums in ‘09 I’m Excited For

Or may have already prematurely enjoyed…. Oh yes, that is exactly as sexy as it sounds.  I do have a soft spot for the following bands even though they teeter on my more mainstream tastes (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
PHOENIX – 1901 – Album: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix { release May 25th 2009 }

Vitamin F for Fiddy.

Our man Curtis James Jackson tha III, otherwise known as the illustrious 50 Cent, has ventured into marketing territory previously uncharted by the rap game. Did I hear someone say Vitamin Water?  Yes you in the back… You receive a cookie with g-unit frosting. Glaceau, (who produces the rather trendy, and not all together untasty Vitamin [...]

Pontypool Zombies?

For those feeling that the zombie genre has been done to death (ha! too easy) I say nay! Hark, a new contender enters the ring and offers a true heavy weight film experience. Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity

If it’s possible to fall in love with an artist simply through their works then consider me smitten. Although I may be a little late to join the club. Yayoi Kusama has been woo-ing the art world since the late 50’s. Her friend list of that period reads like a who’s who [...]

Battles – Mirrored

I’ve been absolutely hooked on this Battles album for the past couple months. Originally, I was giving LittleBigPlanet (the latest hot platformer for PS3) a shot and encountered a Battles tune mid-game. I had previously written Battles off as just-another-indie-rock-band (JAIRB), but was awestruck by the technical nature of their (primarily instrumental) compositions.

Camilla’s Custom DCTO

custom DCTO
I love the work of Camilla d’Errico, so amazing and unique. I was lucky enough to see some of her work showcased at the Ayden Gallery in Vancouver last year. I especially love the way she fluently bridges vinyl toy culture with her art. I heart Camilla!

Zaireeka

I celebrated 25 years of life on planet Earth this past weekend with one of my favourite musical group activities, a Zaireeka listening party. 1997’s Zaireeka pits the audience at odds with the typical aural conformity. The gist? Set up four stereos at various positions in a comfortable room, perhaps with your favourite intoxicant, and [...]
