Take a step in side for a digital glimpse.
Most that know me know that yes, I am probably one of the biggest NIN fans in the tristate area (we live in Canada so geographically that is false but I’ve always liked the way it sounds), I digress. Okay, so to step aside from the fact that I have an almost fanatical affinity for NIN we can discuss one of the newer releases from the NIN machine with the exception of The Slip (a blog post in its own right). Ghosts 1 – 1v (halo 26) released last year is genius not only aurally but in that Mr. Reznor has found a way to appease the mass of his audience be releasing it in multiple formats varying from a free digital download to the limited edition package at $300 a pop and which sold out in 36 hours.
The LE edition includes 3 books:
Book 1 includes 2 audio cds, a data dvd with multi-track session so that you can create your own mixes, a blu-ray disc with high resolution audio, and exclusive slide show.
Book 2 includes a 48 page book of photographs that encompass the aesthetics of the album
Book 3 contains 2 giclee art prints that are incredibly beautiful (as is the rest of the artwork from this album)
I enjoy the fact that artists are finding innovating ways to reach out to their audience and offer them something without exploiting them. NIN is on the forefront of innovative technologies and in my opinion has been since i can remember, from interactive websites that take you on a journey through whatever concept he has dreamt up and eventually landing at some incredibly assembled and produced music, to applications for you phone that bring the NIN experience to your literal doorstep. Being that I have a mental and physical catalog of NIN experiences and collectibles that span my fan-ship (approx 17 yrs – yeah i’m that hardcore) I could go on and on but maybe I’ll save that for NIN pt 2 (the live experience).
For now I think a little kudos is in order for the people that give a conceptual face to the music. Rob Sheridan (a fan-boy in his own right was hand picked by Trent based on a fan site created in the ’90’s…wow) has been the lead in art direction for many of nine inch nails album and conceptual art for the past 10 years
Trent has also worked with the likes of David Carson, Russell Mills, Mark Romeneck which I may have to blog about individually because of the sheer brilliance and scope of their work.
If anyone is struggling for birthday gift ideas now then I throw up my hands!
